Electro/Acoustic Improvisation (2002-present)
Projects like Triple Point, Quartet for the end of Space and my duo with Margolis all have specific styles and modes of engagement. More generally, I love the challenge of improvising with disparate personalities in varying musical contexts where I have not heard a player before. Some favorite recent examples of this include:
with Jonathan Chen and Joseph Clayton Mills as an all-electronics trio at the Spectrum, NYC
with Al Margolis (clarinet), Laura Biagi (voice), James Ilgenfritz (bass), Lisa Kelley (voice) at the Stone
With Jefferson Pitcher (guitar) and Jonathan Chen (violin) at the Albany Sonic Arts Collective
in an ensemble of Min Xiao-Fen (voice/pipa), Yoon Sun Choi (voice), Franz Hackl (trumpet), Bruce Williamson (woodwinds), Dave Taylor (bass trombone), Mark Helias (bass), Gerry Hemingway (percussion) and Sarah Weaver (composer/conductor) at the Austrian Cultural Forum
with Chris Cafe (celleto) in various telematic concerts
With Mike Bullock (contrabass) and Triple Point at the Red Room in Baltimore
The "American Space Quartet": myself, Andrew Raffo Dewar (sax), Phillip Schulze (laptop) and Jonathan Chen (violin)
With Ben Miller (multiphonic guitar, former Destroy All Monsters guitar/sax)
With Gerry Hemingway (drums), Ned Rothenberg (clarinet), Jane Ira Bloom (sax), Dave Taylor (trombone), Jin Hi Kim (komungo), Kenta Nagai (shamisen) and Sarah Weaver (composer/conductor) at the Stone
With Anne Bourne (cello) in several telematic performances
In "transmission-mediated freedback" performances with Judy Dunaway
Videos from certain sets can be found on my Vimeo page, and I'll add more as they become available.
