Disorderly/Orderly (20012)
This was a fun piece that I wrote for the class-turned-ensemble Tintinnabulate. The orderly world of spatialized, sequenced, synthetic sounds collides with the disorderly world of a circuit-bent casio keyboard. The laptop players are networked and share tempo, rhythm and key information; added disorder stems from allowing the audience to overide and control these musical parameters, and allowing a human cyborg (Joshua Shinavier) - being controlled by people in another room - to wander about and interact with the musicians.
The piece was a synthesis of a past supercollider collaboration with Tadashi Usami and a circuit-bent keyboard collaboration with former student and friend Alex Ring. It was performed at the arts center of the capital region in Troy, NY in April 2012.
